Privacy Policy

Veila is a search engine built around the idea that browsing should be private. We hold to that ourselves.

Last updated July 25, 2026

This policy explains what Veila does — and, more importantly, doesn't — collect when you use the site. It's written to be read, not to shield us; if something here is unclear, assume the more privacy-protective reading is the one we intend.

What we don't collect

Veila does not require an account, and there is nothing to sign up for. We do not build profiles of visitors, and we do not sell, rent, or share data with advertisers or data brokers — we have none to sell.

Your searches

Search queries are processed to return results and are not stored against your identity. We may keep aggregate, non-identifying counts (for example, how many searches ran in a day) to keep the service healthy, but these cannot be traced back to you.

For the strongest privacy, reach Veila through our Tor onion service in Tor Browser. Over Tor, even we cannot see your IP address — see the Access over Tor guide.

Server logs

Like any web service, our infrastructure may briefly record technical request data (such as timestamps and response codes) for security, abuse prevention, and debugging. These logs are retained only as long as operationally necessary and are not used to profile visitors. Requests arriving over the onion service do not carry a source IP address for us to log.

What Veila indexes

Veila crawls and describes publicly reachable onion services. The index is about those sites, not about the people who search for them. Indexed metadata (titles, descriptions, categories) is derived from the sites themselves — see the About page for how the index is built, and Safety for how we handle harmful content.

External links

Search results link to third-party onion services that Veila neither operates nor controls. Once you follow a result, this policy no longer applies — those sites set their own terms and have their own (or no) privacy practices.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date above. Material changes will be reflected here rather than communicated individually, since we have no contact details for visitors.

Veila is provided for research and educational purposes only. It discovers and describes onion services; it does not host, endorse, or facilitate access to any illegal content. You are responsible for complying with the laws of your jurisdiction.
